Watching and letting oneself be watched is an important aspect in the relation between a model and a painter / photographer and as well between a dancer / performer and members of an audience. Communication through touch is a fundamental element in Contact Improvisation. Letting oneself be touched can be a playful, adventurous journey into risky territory – not necessarily breathtaking acrobatics, but who knows? Not knowing as an option. When do you say “NO”, set a boundary? Multidirectionality – How direct can we be?

Dieter is a professor for Contemporary Dance and directs the Department for Contemporary and Classical Dance at the HfMDK Frankfurt am Main. From 1978 to 1995 he has been one of the artistic directors of Tanzfabrik Berlin. Since 1977 he has been deeply involved with studying, teaching and performing Contact Improvisation, dance and interdisciplinary work. His choreographies have been presented in many countries and continents. He has also choreographed for Ballet Frankfurt, the Ballet of the State Opera Berlin and for Theater and TV. In the last years his performance research has led to the development of several lecture performances and installations combining practice & theory, movement, live music and video.
